2023 Annual Appeal
Help us continue to bring our incredible local history to life with your generous contribution. You'll help enrich our school-age children throughout Connecticut with meaningful insight into the past, develop new and exciting community events, and expand our research and reach. Your donation will help support programs like these:
West Hartford History Center- After several years in offsite storage, the entire collection of archives & artifacts has returned to our renovated basement storage facility. This was a multi-year, multi-phase project that included the hard work of many current and former staff & Trustees, complex planning and implementation with our architect and construction teams, and the packing up and removal of 500 boxes of collection objects to make way for the renovation. After resurfacing of the walls and floors, installation of new lighting and industry-standard storage systems, as well as brand-new HVAC systems to maintain optimum temperatures and humidity levels, we find ourselves putting the finishing touches on the unpacking and reshelving. Look for the West Hartford History Center to re-open for research requests in 2024!
Educating our children & bringing families together—Education is at the core of our mission, and students are returning once again to learn about community life in the 1700s, early-American history, and the monumental contributions to American education by West Hartford’s native son, Noah Webster, Jr. We have launched our family-friendly “Life on the Webster Farm” series, featuring 18th-century household tasks that illustrate how the Websters’ maintained a ninety-acre farm. Thanksgiving weekend (Saturday, November 24) will feature “hearth cooking” from 1:30-3:30pm, and all kids 12 & under are free that afternoon.
Connecticut Spelling Bee ’24--The Noah Webster House is Connecticut’s only Official Regional Sponsor of the Scripps National Spelling Bee…and the Connecticut Spelling Bee is happening once again in West Hartford on March 3, 2024. Spelling is critical to a quality education….and our guy literally wrote the book on it!
